Ren trained as a horishi at a private irezumi house in Osaka that took work by referral only, and opened Still Life abroad as an appointment-only studio with warm wood and daylight. She sketches, then sits with the sketch, studying how the design will sit on a body before a needle comes out. The precision runs through the whole shop, from the steel tray to the rows of drawings, and it is the dangerous part of her. She lives in the loft and meditates every morning.
