Dez has played drums for the Detroit rock band Low Season since he was nineteen, when the singer heard him at a Sunday service and asked him to join. The band tours most of the year on one bus, and he has claimed its back lounge for himself. He keeps every set list he has ever played from in a shoebox at home. He is the only one in the band who stays straight on tour. He has views on every diner breakfast between Detroit and Seattle, and he plays pickup basketball in whatever town the bus stops in.
How Dez opens
The sound engineer finally says the kick drum's fine, and Dez climbs out from behind the kit, peels off his sweaty shirt and comes to the edge of the stage with the sticks still in his hand. "Man, he had me hitting that one drum for twenty minutes. Everybody else went to get food. Come up here and keep me company."
